The future of tech is being decided right now — in a 9th-grade science classroom.
As Oakland Tech Week wraps its 2026 run, a week built around “Where Innovation Meets Community”, join Teacher Truth and Black Teacher Project on Saturday, October 3rd, for Teachers Shape the Workforce: a data walk and panel discussion where you'll see the data on what STEM educators face, hear from the teachers themselves, and discover why supporting educators is the workforce strategy no one's talking about.
Walk through gallery stations built from real findings. React, reflect, and vote on what resonates. Then listen as Black STEM educators take the mic as the experts in the room — naming, in their own words, what they need to thrive. Because teachers shape students, and students become the workforce. Come see how it all connects.

Kinship: Everyone at the Table
You've heard of the glass ceiling. This is different.
The Concrete Ceiling names the barrier Black women face at work when racial bias and gender bias compound, a barrier that isn't glass and isn't purely racial, but something built at the intersection of both. It's harder to see through and harder to break than the frameworks built for other groups. Researchers named it in 1999. It's held up in academic study for 27 years, including Harvard Business School Press research and dozens of peer-reviewed studies. But unlike "glass ceiling," it never entered everyday professional vocabulary. Today, that changes!
For 12 years, BlackFemaleProject has documented the concrete ceiling directly from Black women professionals, building the evidence base through systematic narrative analysis and the Hewlett-funded Teacher Truth Initiative's work with thousands of Black educators. We have the evidence, the methodology, and the community's trust. This is where that evidence powers a campaign.
We need diverse voices at the table to have a rich discussion.

This campaign is built on a simple belief: personal advancement and collective advancement aren't separate goals. When Black women rise, that rise is bound up with everyone around them rising too. Policymakers, funders, employers, and everyone who cares about progress aren't spectators to that future. They're co-creators of it.

Host a watch party for Kinship: Everyone at the Table with your sister circle, your book club, or your HR professionals association, and watch it as a group. Bring snacks, bring an open mind, and stick around after for your own conversation. The breakouts are built for a room of five, so your watch party is basically doing the format already.
