BECAUSE OF A BLACK WOMAN Mary McNeal Logan

We’re celebrating our 10th Anniversary! Our theme, Because of a Black Woman, acknowledges and expresses gratitude for the icons who’ve inspired us from afar and for the Black women who have invested their time and talents to support the growth of BlackFemaleProject.

Read BlackFemaleProject advisor Kia Walton Because of a Black Woman reflection below.

Who is one of the Black women who's most impacted your personal life and/or career?

Mary McNeal Logan

What's one of the most memorable lessons or practices she taught you? How do you continue to apply it in your personal and/or professional life?

My grandmother taught me how to stand and deliver from a very early age. Painstakingly, she trained each of her grandchildren to speak publicly, beginning with scriptures in church and empowering us to later deliver any message we needed to as teenagers, young adults, and now working professionals. Her early work with me supports me to this day to command space, convey the true meaning of words, and be a conduit of truth.

What advice would you give to a young Black woman or girl trying to find her place in the world?

Where there are elders in your corner, lean in and listen.
