Disturbing the Peace: Annihilating Comfort to Advocate for Yourself

About the Workshop:

During this lunchtime session, attendees will learn to examine their personal relationship with comfort; understand how to disrupt a culture of complacency; and discover what a collective reimagining can do to propel them forward.

Ché will guide the group through an exploration of discomfort through a lens that centers Black women. Participants will review Tema Okun's "Characteristics of White Supremacy Culture" and reflect on the ways these characteristics affect our sense of agency and autonomy at work and beyond.

About the Facilitator:

Ché Abram is an Oakland, California native and has a primary lens in higher education. Currently, she is on the Board of Directors for BlackFemaleProject and also serves as the Chief of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging for the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health. She cultivates restorative environments that promote healing from adversity and foster communities centered in accountability.
