Event Reflections: Crowns for Queens
All year long, BlackFemaleProject is celebrating 10 years of healing through storytelling! One way that we’re living into the celebration of our decade of service is by uplifting the stories, accomplishments, and beauty of Black women across history and into the present.
On the beautiful sunny afternoon of Sunday, March 24th, we were honored to join the BIWOC* Collective in Oakland for their Crowns for Queens event hosted at Mannequin Madness and facilitated by shop owner Judi Henderson and her team. This special event welcomed a powerful group of 25 women of color to follow their creative inspiration in making a crown for their wardrobe. Guided by the team at Mannequin Madness, attendees adorned their crowns with flowers, butterflies, fruit, gold, and glitter. The only objective was to tap into creative self-expression, fellowship, and joy.
After finishing their masterpieces, the queens of the day joined us at our Because of a Black Woman activation to honor their strength and beauty with our photo frame and affirmations.
Many thanks to the event hosts Lisha Bell and Debbie Senesky. We look forward to more inspiring collaborations.
