The Majestic Place Book Launch: Post Event Reflection

On April 11th, we hosted our 3rd annual book event with Dr. Wendi Williams. The Majestic Place Book Launch invited Black women leaders to engage in conversation and small bites as we explored the experiences of Black women at work and the need to cultivate spaces where we can thrive.

Grounded in her new book, The Majestic Place: The Freedom Possible in Black Women’s Leadership, Dr. Wendi and moderator Dr. Rachelle Rogers-Ard walked us through the shared themes present throughout the contributed stories and introduced us to some of the women who bravely shared their stories in the book. We heard directly from some of those women and then moved into small group discussions where we defined what our majestic place looks like at work.

A mother and daughter pair talked to us about their writing experience as a team and the ways the mother passed down wisdom about advocating for herself with adults in school. And a mid-wife shared a bit about her journey to midwifery and how reclaiming a role once led by Black women is a form of leadership and joy.

This inspiring book event invited us to connect with others and collectively reimagine what the workplace looks and feels like for us as Black women.

Top Takeaways:

• Black women’s leadership is everywhere and we learn it at a young age

• Creating your majestic place is about honoring the magic you bring to your work, not requesting special conditions

• Passing down wisdom to the younger generations helps them to advocate for their needs

• Fellowship with other Black women allows us to tell our truths and connect our shared stories

• When we shrink to fit, we do a disservice to our gifts and the spaces that we occupy

Don’t Forget:
