Post Event Reflection: New Year visioning

“We are here focusing on dreams and visions. We're not going to let the world dictate how we are supposed to feel about our visions and our dreams for ourselves.” - Afiya Shani

We kicked off the year and our 2025 Events Calendar with our highly anticipated New Year Visioning workshop designed and facilitated by our Programs and Events Manager Afiya Shani.

This year, increased interest allowed us to host two events filled with Black women who were excited to reflect on their goals for the year and transform those goals into a vision board that can serve as inspiration and reminders all year long. Impactful, transformative, and just plain fun this workshop welcomed dreamers into the visioning power!

Also the Founder of WildFiya, a playful and restorative wellbeing company, Fi. is known for her ability to guide participants through meaningful and intentionally crafted prompts that help to create clarity and confidence. Of course, the experience is guided alongside a curated playlist that adds to the vibe of joy and community support.

In case you missed it, here are a few takeaways to guide you no matter what time of year you create your vision board:

  • Gratitude is the secret sauce. We must be grateful for what we have as we ask for more.

  • Every day is a practice of living our desires and creating the life we want is on the other side of our vision (and improving our habits).

  • Looking at your board daily helps to activate its power

  • You are the magic behind your board.

When we opened and closed the event, attendees were asked to reflect on one powerful question: “What does it look like to live a life I love?” As Black women in a world that is constantly changing around us and consistently challenging our wellbeing, having a vision for ourselves (and our communities) is vital to living a life of fulfillment and self-defined success.

What Attendees are saying about New Year Visioning

  • So I've always done vision board planning and all this other stuff, but this has been a totally different experience and I just so appreciate you guys for putting this together.

  • Yes, it's been magical. Yes, it's been communal and yes, it's just been so wonderful to rekindle the power of dreaming and remembering.”

  • “I love this process because there's a lot of questions that I need to be asking myself. And if I didn't start here. I don't think I would be approaching this the right way, and I feel so good inside. I feel like this was the reset that I needed.”
