Staying Connected: Winter 2021

Launching Into 2021: BlackFemaleProject STAYING CONNECTED

STAYING CONNECTED, February 2021

We’ve been blessed to spend much of Black History Month digging into our new initiative, Teacher Truth: A BlackFemaleProject Production. Teacher Truth is an industry-specific story collection project focused on Black educators. We’re excited to hear stories from classrooms, administrative offices, and wider school communities, and we look forward to sharing this curated content with the BlackFemaleProject network. If you're an educator in the state of California, today's the final day to take our Teacher Truth survey.

Member Spotlight: Jei Watkins

“Being in touch with one's divine right to be, to assert herself, to create, to share is something BlackFemaleProject gifted me.”

Our latest BlackFemaleProject Member Spotlight features community education and mental health professional, Jei Watkins, speaking to her impactful introduction to the BlackFemaleProject community through her participation in 8 Weeks of Self Discovery.

February 25; March 25; April 19, 2021 - 10am PT: Voices Rise: Black Women in Leadership Workshop Series

BlackFemaleProject is partnering with Alliance for Girls to deliver a critical workshop series: Voices Rise: Black Women in Leadership

The series will explore: How can we use lessons learned from intersectional lived experiences and center the voices of those who navigate complex social structures to teach us how to lead with love, and empathize with those who represent difference in our lives? How can we use our voices to counter pervasive racism and sexism in schools, outside of school, in the workplace, and beyond?

By elevating positive models and affirming gender identity (in multiple forms), together we will challenge race and gender biases by learning new ways of thinking about others. Learn more and register here.

*"Girls" refers to gender-expansive youth (cis girls, trans girls, non-binary youth, gender non-conforming youth, gender queer youth and any girl-identified youth).

Help us share more stories.

We believe in the power of storytelling to spur healing, growth, and confidence among Black women and girls to support them to step into leadership and work through barriers of oppression. We hope that BlackFemaleProject narratives will not only encourage more Black women and girls to follow their own paths, but also illuminate patterns of intersecting injustices for our employers, colleagues, and all people. Help us share more stories.
