What is your industry or area of expertise?

I would say my area of expertise is music, in particular Black music. It’s my mission to keep the history of our music alive—by insisting on working for one thing, and when I work, I do the music of our people. I always introduce them as the composers. I also go to high school and middle schools and give lectures on the history of our music and perform with my band.

Why do you believe in the mission of BlackFemaleProject?

Because there aren’t a hell of a lot of people in organizations who are really practicing that and holding up Black women and actually supporting us in the many professions that we are in. That is a lot of the reason why we can exist – because of organizations like BlackFemaleProject.

What brought you to BlackFemaleProject?

It was just that—the mission statement. It's very difficult to connect with people who are thinking about the arts and/or professional Black women. And I've known Precious since she was a kid. She and my daughter used to play duets together. I’ve known that divine creature almost her entire life, and it's heartwarming to see her at the helm of an organization doing positive work that is so needed.

How has BlackFemaleProject impacted you personally?

For me everything goes back to music, no matter what we’re talking about. And to be supported by BlackFemaleProject, in the ways in which we have been supported, by them being our fiscal agent, it just means the world to have someone you can put your trust in who is also going to put their trust in you. And all with a happy heart. And actually see the support come alive by us being able to do what we do.

What BlackFemaleProject content have you found most resonant?

It’s the nice variety of content and how informative it can be. And the fact that it’s consistent. I really appreciate that.

Bio:

The Dynamic Miss Faye Carol is one of the premiere vocalists of her time. Her unique style and gift of connecting with her audience is astonishing. Arranging jazz standards and other popular songs in her own way is nothing new to Miss Carol. She began this decades ago, well before mixing genres such as hip-hop and jazz were so widely embraced.

Miss Faye has maintained an incredible consistency throughout the decades.  As a result, she has successfully reached her initial goal of being a full-time artist through many changes in the music industry.  She and her late husband Jim Gamble went the independent route before it became popular for artists to make their own records, build a fan base (without a record label), and promote their brand.

Known for her outwardly loving embrace and support of all, Faye Carol remains a conduit for bringing together many communities through music.  As founder of The School Of The Getdown, she's effectively developed two programs to serve the Bay Area community.  MITC and School Of The Getdown have triumphantly supported hundreds of youth and adults in becoming more confident and skilled musicians.
